I think I've said this before, but I don't really begrudge Kerry any of his medals. Too long ago and far away, memory plays tricks even immediately after events, especially events that cause the adrenaline to pump. One guy hears gunshots and thinks he's being shot at, but it's really a guy on another boat shooting at imaginary enemies that don't actually exist. Come on, how are you going to unravel that can of worms almost 40 years later?

Well, let them do what they will, history has a way of adapting itself to the needs of the present, they may succeed in stopping and reversing the avalanche of time, it has been done on rare occasion.

Kerry saw which way history was going, and decided to ride it to his advantage. O'Neill decided to stand athwart the avalanche, which is heroic. I wish him luck.

I can't be the "only" one who sees the irony/absurdity in the fact Rassman was on Kerry's boat, another boat hits a mine, there is a explosion, Kerry hits the throttle and hauls A$$, "BUGS OUT", Rassman falls overboard because of Kerry and Kerry gets a medal for pulling him back on board...............AFTER the shooting had stopped!!!
Freakin Unbelievable!!!

Lindy, would not the after-action combat reports be more credible than 35 year old memories?

From the after-action reports:

(My note: MSF refers to Mobile Strike Force)

PCF 23 JOINED AT CAI NUOC. PCFS WITH MSF EMBARKED DEPARTED CAI NUOC AT 1445H PROCEEDING DOWN BAY HAP. AT VQ 995770 MINE DETONATED UNDER PCF 3 LIFTING BOAT ABOUT 2-3 FT OUT OF WATER. VERY HEAVY BLK SMOT (smoke?) OBSERVED AT SAME TIME BOATS RCVD HEAVY A/W AND S/A FROM BOTH BANKS. FIRE CONTINUED F OZNABOUT 5000 METERS. TWO OTHER MINE EXPOLOSIONS OVC RVED (occured?) ALL BOATS AND MSF RETURNED FIRE AND ATTEMPTED ASSIST PCF 3. PCF 94 PICKED UP MSF ADVISOR WHO WENT OVERBOARD. 94 TOWED PCF 3 AS BUCKET BRIGADE CONTROLLED FLOODING.

It appears to me that an unbiased observer would believe that the four PCFs were being fired upon. Or do you think that the after-action reports are fictitious?
