One thing the troops in Nam and Iraq have learned is that there is no difference between "Friendly Fire" and "Hostile Fire", one will kill you as quick as the other. When I was in Nam Friendly Fire was a real concern.

Yes and it important to remember the boats movement changes it's attitude or position swiftly in the water and firing is easily directed at least slightly off course. The water after a mine explosion would have many swells as well.

Rassman isn't going to know if there is enemy or friendly fire. He assumed enemy fire because frindly 50s were straffing the beaches. I bet noboby ever told him otherwise.
