unclewest: I am reposting my private message to you from the John Kerry for President thread.
I take this tack because I can no longer post over there (thank God) and I don't trust those behind that thread to pass my messages on to you. So here is what I just posted:

unclewest. I am once again proud of you. You have moved deep into enemy territory over there on the John Kerry for President thread.

But, as Poet advised you: "If you are here to change our minds, you are wasting your time."

And so you are sir. But for a worthy cause.

There are two things you need to know as you push deeper into that jungle.

1. It is peopled by a group of avid if not rabid posters who pride themselve on their ability to not-think. They are visceral enough. But thinking through the viscera does not penetrate the brain. And since the brain is the repository of thought, and since the brain is not engaged on that thread, you are dealing with an enemy who feeds only on emotion. They wasted their minds a long time ago looking for an anybody but Bush candidate capable of bringing down the Republican cause.

2. You have to be careful to watch your hind-quarters. You may think that a response or two from any of those posters indicates that you are hitting some targets. But beware! Even as you post, I see ChinuSFO, the thread moderator, loading his BB gun with rice pellets saved over from one of those purple heart encounters of his hero, JFK the Second. Once he gets you clearly in his sights, he will cock the BB gun, pull the trigger, and, low and behold, you wind up with JFK the Second rice pellets embedded in your butt.

Now, that attack on the rear from the rear may please you as a battle-hardened Veteran of the Real Vietnam War. But on the other hand, it is too late for you to rewrite that record, submit it to Central Command, and receive still another ribbon for you well-decorated chest.

I am going to set the clock to see how long it takes ChinuSFO to bann you from the thread (the equivalent of a pellet gun attack from the rear, gun loaded with rice pellets saved over from JFK the Second's heroic stand against that lone teen-aged Viet Cong enemy that Kerry is said to have killed.)

JCP, nothing about war is civilized. US & UK military are the 1st in history to show any concern for the treatment of their sworn enemies. Simply admitting war is barbaric will not result in a more peaceful world because in fact Islamic fundamentalists have declared war on you & every American. Yes, Lt Calley's Mi Lai is a verified atrocity & no one is trying to defend it. However John Kerry told a bold faced lie when he recklessly accused ALL Vietnam vets of daily atrocities. He did it for his own personal gain, as he was running for his 1st political office in a very anti-war state.

I've heard some American journalists admit during intervening yrs that they wrote exaggerated, less than truthful reports from Vietnam. They snicker & say it was simply part of the anti-war protesters modus operandi at the time. Those journalists & John Kerry placed their own ambitions before the good name of millions of U.S. soldiers, who in fact were placing their lives on the line in order to fight a system that denies freedom of speech. Most Vietnam protesters were trying to rationalize their own personal refusal to defend liberty in the same way as their peers in Vietnam. Their journalistic lies were the visible signs of their inner guilt. Rather than admit their own weakness, their personal defense mechanisms insisted that their fellow Americans who were fighting in Vietnam must have less than noble reasons for doing so. They must be rapists, torturers & otherwise unsavory characters. Anyone who believes that the 2.6M American Vietnam vets committed those types of daily atrocities, are extremely gullible people who have swallowed John Kerry's "over the top" 1970s political campaign rhetoric.
