michael, I agree that the incidents in Nam, have been wrung out for every drop there is. It would be good for the nation if the subject was no longer the primary issue in the campaign. If I was advising Bush, I would suggest centering on Kerry's weak, and negative, contributions to the process of the Senate during the entire range of his existence there. That could, very well, be more damaging than the medal controversy, because, as you said, weird things happen in combat that no one is proud of, but for the most part, none of the participants make those incidents a major issue to qualify them for the White House.

It is naive to think that there were not more mai lais type situations

What possible justification do you have for making another blanket accusation against American war veterans that there were more My Lais?

Do you attempt to mitigate your admitted draft dodger status and assuage your professed guilt feelings by dumping unfounded accusations on those who did serve?

given the totality of john kerry's military and civilian life with all the good and bad, i can't see why he is the democratic candidate other than howard dean made himself unelectable. dean is the fellow the democrats wanted, but dean could not appeal to the center of america. so i am very curious whether half of the country will like what kerry delivers if they get him. i know half will not like him.
