CJ, How is this relevant? The revenues, minus expenses, are profits that the company that is distributing the movie takes as profits. This is different than money spent on airing commercials...

I figure anyone and everyone who paid to see "Fahrenheit 9/11" effectively made a political donation to the Democratic Party. None of that is subject to campaign finance laws, and none of it should be, either. But if money truly corrupts politics, then $100M in revenues just corrupted Hollywood politics.

And if the Dems have a lot of corruption to hide, the Republicans have even more. How much money has Bush raised so far? How much did he spend last time?

Remember, all of the money that Bush and Kerry raised is under campaign finance laws, and nothing Bush or Kerry did in raising this money goes against either the letter or the spirit of those laws. Each individual contribution is limited, so any discrepancy here can only be explained away by the fundraising prowess of the two candidates. In other words, Bush is a lot better than Kerry in raising money from average, everyday citizens.

Thus, Kerry has to resort to unrestricted money raised and spent by the 527 groups. Frankly, I'm surprised that most 527 money is Democrat-leaning, since I'd figure those "evil right-wing big business special interests" would be pretty motivated in exploiting this loophole as well.

Sir Mark Thatcher was planning a move from South Africa to Texas when he was arrested over alleged involvement in a coup plot, a South African prosecutor said today.

Margaret Thatcher's son is under house arrest and facing the possibility of 15 years in prison after being accused over an alleged plot to overthrow the government of oil-rich Equatorial Guinea.

The 51-year-old, who denies the charge, was arrested at his Cape Town home early yesterday, and appeared in court in the city later that day.
