i have concluded based on a market of just one that most sbux customers like the taste of coffee, but they don't like coffee.

i also agree that the dark-roast drip coffee tends to be bitter, but presumably this is the taste they find appeals to the most dark-roast drip coffee drinkers. it is a bit of a shock, of course, for people who are used to drinking the likes of Folgers. they also always have a light-roast drip that is not so bitter. most of their other products are not made with drip coffee. the tooty-frooty ones use espresso shots or prepackaged mixes.

t4, You would like Jackie Mason's SBUX routine. "Don't tell me it tastes this bitter because it's special arabica beans from Ghana or somewhere. You bastards burnt the beans!" <G> I think it has double the caffeine of normal coffee and is therefore an addiction rather than a preference for most. I'd rather have a milkshake at a dairy store than a Starbucks mocha, but there's no dairy store on every corner, so I suck them down now and then.
