Lindy, I was in college during Nam and like Dick Cheney, I figured I had better things to do, but since you brought up adding an 'E' to my handle, I figure you must have a rather impressive service record.

SO..what's your military record Lindy???????

Oh,oh. Where are we going with this? You came into my Dance Hall, asked a couple of polite questions, and I answered you politely. You seem nice enough so I made a small joke about your handle. Then you escalated with with a "what about the troops?" question.

I matched the "heat" in my answer. Now you are making it personal. I am out on the Islands, where it is now 10:32 PM. Even if you are on the west coast, it was 12:55PM when you posted the message I am responding to. This is not the first time I have seen things get nasty on SI late in the evening.

But, in an attempt to cool things down, I will answer your question. In 1953, I was an 18 year old college kid who did not want to start his Junior year at SMU. The Korean war ended in July, but I knew those nasty NK's were going to keep after us. So I joined the Army. There were so many volunteers in Texas that I would never have been called. I figured the NK's next move would be a sneak attack though the Fulda Gap.

With that in mind, I had a provision put in my induction that said I had to be stationed in Germany. After being fully trained by the Army as a clerk typist, I spent the next 2 years as a "Remington Raider," typing for an Ordnance company in Baumholder, Germany.

I can proudly say that as a result of my sterling performance, not one North Korean every attacked through the Fulda Gap. No Purple Hearts or Medals. But I never had to visit a chancre mechanic.
