Fair enough. We can agree to disagree (about whether or not stock options are a good way to compensate.)

I'm probably more aware than you, about how little Cisco has been giving away during this downturn, based upon a sales manager approaching me for a position, because his stock was in the tank during the downturn (like nearly all stocks). He simply needed some perspective. Stock options work wonders when the stock goes up, but they are punitive when the stock is flat or down, but this is temporary. Unlike you, I think this is acceptable, because I believe this is a temporary downturn and am fully confident in Cisco's employees ability to build value and grow the company. If they wanted a non-incentive compensation plan, they would work in the oil industry, but that would bore aggressive people who want to be rewarded richly when they and their company do well.
