John O'Neill was not a protege of Charles Colson and you know it. O'Neill was speaking out against the antiwar activists before the White House became aware of his existence. To suggest that O'Neill -- a guy who voted for Perot in 1992 and 1996 and Gore in 2000 -- is a lifelong "GOP operative" is laughable. For you to even suggest that I would "defend gutter-level criminal political dirty tricks" is highly insulting. I believe that O'Neill is attacking on principle. The New York Times has a nice balanced profile of his in today's edition.
