I went to Navy OCS. I know what I'm talking about. Reserve Officers can request a regular commission later. The top 15% of the Navy OCS class gets regular commissions just like Naval Academy graduates.

I agree with you that they can...But they have to serve two years first to comply with Title 10 USC.

My point is Kerry did not get a regular commission out of OCS. He was commissioned an Ensign in the US Navy Reserves. And more importantly he lied when he said he enlisted for Vietnam.

Both his initial 10 months enlisted service and his commissioned service was all done as a reservist.
Kerry was never a member of the regular Navy. He was a reservist from the day he entered to the day he was discharged.

I don't disrespect his service. I respect everyone who served equally. I served 6 years active enlisted duty in the Regular Army and 14 more years on continuous active duty as a Reserve Officer myself.

I do disrespect the big lie, that Kerry enlisted for Vietnam. Kerry requested a draft deferment and did not get it. He then joined the Navy Reserves.
A man does not enlist in the reserves if he wants an active duty assignment.
