I am not sure about the effect of cornstarh but it looks like a workable preservative because cornstarch can "absorb" quite a lot of water by "hydrogen-bonding". So, as long as the body remains unexposed to bacteria and microbes, fungi and spores in the air, I think the body will be "preserved".

By the way, in South East Asia I have noticed some mothers preserve bits of their kids' umbilical cords, especially the 1-2" bits above their navel, in medicated talcum powder or cuticura powder. One old woman proudly showed me the preserved umbilical cords of her 12 children contained in a can of powder. She (obviously a superstitious woman) said she did it for the sake of making her kids nice to one another.

Seems to me you are some kind of entomologist.
