Al Q is planning a pre-election hit.

I am sure they are. We will find out if they can pull it off. It is tough to defense small groups like this.

I am afraid of a hit on Bush by a left wing nut if it looks like Kerry is losing. That is how bad the hatred is.

If it happened, Cheney could still beat Kerry. Put Jeb Bush in as the VP candidate. They would't dare cry "dynasty" in those circumstances. Then a 527 group would run ads saying, "don't reward Kerry by voting for him."

What are the threats?

Building collapse via explosions and fire in mid-stories.
Sarin in the subway/movie theatre/bus/
Food supply fear with toxins in many products with no warning [they could buy product, poison it, by injecting through seals, then next visit put it back on the shelf - or maybe scanners would recognize it as already sold and a red light would flash at the checkout?]

Any more ideas?

Mq, there are literally dozens of things that could be done for which we are not prepared.

Your ideas are actually small beer.

As part of a lawsuit I was handling a few years ago, I learned how oil from the ME gets to the US. Supertankers drop it off at several facilities in the Caribbean as well as at a couple of offshore facilities in the Gulf of Mexico near Louisiana and Texas. They are all vulnerable to a coordinated attack. I can't think of a better way to shut off the flow of ME oil to the US. Watch the price of Texas Tea instantly go to the $80 range should such an attack take place.

Couple such an attack with a coordinated dirty nuke explosion on Wall St., and you will see the kind of economic devastation that AQ and OBL firmly believe can bring us to our knees.

The cost of such a dual-purpose attack would be minuscule small when compared to the damage to the economy.

AQ and OBL have learned the Jim Carville lesson well: "It's the economy, stupid." The next attacks will be on economic targets, not on people.

<<What are the threats?>> Regardless of the threat, what is the desired outcome. In Spain, the terrorists wanted to sway voters, and were successful. Mq, if you are correct that terrorist actually like Bush (I agree, heck they have gone from backwoods dictators to worldwide policy makers in less than 3 years), what needs to be accomplished to assure his reelection? Is Bush so wrapped up in patriotism that any attack will work in his favor? Or, will an election inspired strike bring out the “can’t we all just get along” pacifists, and work against him? What is the likely terrorist election agenda?
