Kevin, the point was, you made it sound so easy. It was not. I am of that era, that is why I corrected your misposts. The draft is written to ensure they have a force. It was not easy to get out as you suggested, and it was not honest to compare deferments that were allowed when the need for forces were less than when Kerry had his turn. We needed more bodies at that time.

Let's stick to the facts. Your argument is not worth pursuing.

He did find a way out. All else failed so he joined the Navy. He was assigned safe duty on ship. He then volunteered for PCF duty, before they were assigned up river in combat roles as opposed to patrol duty.

They changed the nature of PCF duty and he got out as quick as he possibly could. I consider his service valid, but he is hardly a hero.
