higher order species are held to higher expectations

LOL! That was one fine confusing post on geopolitical zoology!... -g.

Those dudes holding children hostages in Russia can't possibly belong to any of the higher species, can they....

I noticed that you edited out a sentence which seemed to imply that the death of a suicide bomber sort of closes the case. I think you were right to remove that -- the anti-civilization-minded leaders and ideologues who recruit those youngsters are the more important culprits.

I guess I'm less racist than you then. Arabs have a long history of civilization and I don't think they have any excuse for turning into a death cult.

The suicide bomber is dead and that's the primary guilty party. There's no revenge to be had.

That's a mistaken notion. For every splodeydope, there is also the guy who recruited him, the higher-up who ordered the bombing, the handler who trained him, the engineer who made the bomb, and the driver who drove him to the scene.

That's called "the soft bigotry of low expectations." We ruin people with it many ways. In schools, for example.

I know it's racist, but higher order species are held to higher expectations. We don't get all wound up and angry because a crocodile eats a person. That's just what they do. That's their job. The same with sharks. I'd kill them if I could, but not from any sense of revenge but merely to stop them doing it again.

If you were true to this, you would be an unmitigated hater of Islam-O-Wacos, ready to kill every one you saw on sight since, obviously, they are no better than rabid dogs. You would also support each and every measure the US has taken to be rid of them.

But you don't. You seem prefer the sensitive blandishments of a NUN, etc.

What gives, Mq.?

The sad fact of the matter is that the world has gone temporarily insane.

For every QCOM employee trying to make the world better, there are two or three head-whacking nutjobs ready to bomb schools and pizza parlors, behead innocent Nepalese, etc. For every Dr. Irwin Mark Jacobs, there is a corresponding Osama Bin Laden thinking of newer and better ways to terrorize us in the name of a silly superstition.

At the end of the day, the nutjobs outnumber us, are more rabid, and are a lot more ruthless. They may very well prevail. Oh, they won't take over the US or Hobbitland, but they very well may control the oil, dictate to the Europeans, and tell us what to do with respect to this or that issue, which is the same thing as winning. They'll hit us hard without warning if we don't toe the line.

They have the capacity to inflict huge economic losses if they want to do so, and they will. What you saw in Spain this Summer is but a taste of the future.

We are at the door of a new Dark Age, I'm afraid, thanks to civilization, reason, and the weakness that soft living has brought upon us. We have invited the horrors we have experienced and will experience thanks to the civilizing influences of reason, dialogue, and negotiation. Your NUN will compound the error and make matters worse.

I can't believe Americans don't appreciate the peril and may conceivably elect a President which is the epitome of the reasons why we are now in danger.

Believe it or not, the Terminator Governor said it best a couple of nights ago: "You don't reason with terrorists. You defeat them. He [Bush] knows you can't reason with people blinded by hate. They hate the power of the individual. They hate the progress of women. They hate the religious freedom of others. They hate the liberating breeze of democracy."

Yes, they may be humans, but they are no better than rabid dogs or killer whales. They need to be treated as such, and the quicker and more ruthlessly done, the better. We are unfortunately unable to make the sacrifices that winning such this momentous struggle require.

Instead of It, our future may very well hold nothing but blood and sorrow, a constant stream of premeditated attacks on the part of a foe that refuses to show its face.
