But, of course, those initiatives didn't bring victory in the Cold War. The Soviet Union did. The Left doesn't want to give Reagan credit for ending the Cold War. I understand that. But it is irrefutable by any logical argument. The people who know, like Margaret Thatcher and Henry Kissinger, without hesitation, credit Reagan. LOGICALLY, one must credit Reagan. The Left never will, however. That's okay. Nobody's calling for Carter's statue on Mt. Rushmore. Well, you know, Sir George the Old did propose sanctions as the solution. Now, in general, sanctions take more than a month or two be effective. When they didn't prove to be effective after a few weeks, going to war seems to be pretty extreme... Only if you don't respect the fact that Saddam's move into Kuwait was a threat to our national security. If you don't acknowledge that, you aren't comprehending the importance of it. "Senator Kerry doesn't appear to understand how the world has changed. He talks about leading a "more sensitive war on terror," as though al-Qaida will be impressed with our softer side." Of course, Kerry didn't say that. Uh, I think he did: Last Thursday, Kerry told minority journalists at the Unity 2004 conference in Washington that "I believe I can fight a more effective, more thoughtful, more strategic, more proactive, more sensitive war on terror that reaches out to other nations and brings them to our side." cnn.com "Senator Kerry denounces American action when other countries don't approve as if the whole object of our foreign policy were to please a few persistent critics." Of course, it wasn't just a few, insignificant critics. Exactly. And the number isn't relevant. A competent president will NEVER, EVER filter our need for self-defense through the U.N. or seek approval from other countries. This, more than any other issue, is what separates the Left from the Right, IMO. The Right respects our sovereignty, the Left thinks we should cede our sovereignty to other governments. I would never consider voting for ANYONE who would insist on the consent of foreign nations for our defense, and in fact, in my mind the need for such consent would indicate gross incompetence. If they agree, as in the Gulf War, great. But if they don't, to hell with them. We don't need Chirac's or Putin's permission for any thing we want to do. So yeah, while Cheney didn't use the exact phrase "Kerry is unfit", he did his best to portray him as such. At least with the first few, all but one by lies and distortions. I've clearly shown that NONE were lies OR distortions. It was precisely as I previously stated.

Joe
