So what's your point? It was an FAA requirement. If your flying experience is true, then airline and/or a flight crew chose to ignore the rule. No different than speeding, driving drunk, illegal turns etc. The net result is that someone gets hurt.

The airplane doors were all locked during 9-11. Terrorists gained entry anyway. Today, even more stringent procedures are in place, armed guards are in the many cabins, the flight crews are more aware and the passengers will be far less cooperative than during 9-11.

It recently happened in Russia because they were still using 9-10 procedures. Now they aren't. El Al led the way. Others are slowly following.

I'm here to tell you that you didn't and you ARE lying. It's an FAA requirement, it does not go disregarded. ANY pilot (pilots shuttling between cities not flying the aircraft) on a flight or any member of the FAA (FAA up until a couple years ago would routinely fly commercial for free, sometimes in the jump seat), that would see that activity, would report it and the pilot would have his license suspended, pending possible loss of license. You may have seen the door open on the ground but not in flight.

The door has been required locked for 2 reasons, To prevent pilot distraction, and to prevent hijacking that occurred in the 60's.
