The predicted track always has a number of uncertainties, especially further out. For Ivan, the forecasters have been saying that the track looked pretty solid to Jamaica, but after that they were not sure how the steering currents would develop. Here is a spaghetti map of several models showing this uncertainty:

NOAA takes their best guess based on several models. It is far from a perfect science. But it is pretty good ...
