I recently found out that one of my ancestors was Jewish. Apparently this was something that nobody in the next generation ever mentioned. I only found out because it was an element in the Supreme Court lawsuit I've posted about, and was discussed in that opinion (his second family tried to invalidate the first marriage after his death because the first wife was not Jewish.) Until a few decades ago, it was suppressed in family histories.

No telling how many of us are in those shoes. Same with being Native American or Cajun. It used to be something to be ashamed of, now we're proud.

Also recently found out one of my husband's ancestors was Bohemian -- family history had her as Swedish.

Just plain weird what people will try to suppress.
