Josh Marshall is always right on target .....

.......... <As I said, President Bush, in this way, has managed to derive political advantage from the magnitude of his own failure.>

A pitcher loses a 10-run lead in the ninth inning. The manager comes out with the team losing now by 2 runs. "I'm taking you out." The pitcher responds: "But the guy in the bullpen doesn't have a plan."

How idiotic!

I think Kerry should just come out for Iraq withdrawal and stick with it. He'd get pounded for flip-flopping, caving in to the "terrorists", etc. But it would put EVERY new death directly on Bush's head. Kerry could just say that the situation has deteriorated to the point where he see's no hope unless we institute a brutal, repressive deadly style of control that would make Saddam look like a pussy, and that he's not going to do that. He's going to get out of the way and let the Iraqis determine their own course.
