Hi Malcolm - Manufacture outside the US for US sales is pretty standard in computer, electronics, appliance sub-assmblies (GE makes about 90% of their compressors in either Brazil or China, for example) and other business.

If it weighs less than 50 pounds, and volume is under about 15 cubic feet, it is likely to have been outsourced.

Heavy stuff -cars and bulky stuff- refrigerators, washing machines - get finally assembly in the US, with labor intensive parts made elsewhere.
