Al, I'll be brief. Even though I agree with the gist of your post, there are two problems that tremendously complicate the matter:

- Winning the hearts and minds of the Arabs is a noble goal, but futile if we don't address the real problems that breed terrorism: poverty, dictatorships, and the Mafia-like rule of the fundamentalists. No one is going to be impressed with talk on our part, or "good-faith" withdrawals of our military or our aid to Israel, as long as they continue to live in squalor.

- The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is hardly a one-sided affair, as your post hints, nor would it occur in a vacuum even if we were to stop helping Israel.

Anyway, what do you think about what Scumbria said, that Israel is the front-line defense against Muslim extremism, rather than the reason for it?
