Some, like my late husband joined the AF to prevent being drafted, he remained stateside. My first husband beat the draft, because his birthday was March 6, whatever number that ended up being. My boyfriend joined the AF, too and he was over in the South Pacific or somewhere and was in Vietnam, late - '74 didn't "see action". That was a national nightmare. In my opinion, it was a stupid, unnecessary and brutal war that cut short the lives of many innocents and to this day, hurt those who lived through it. And now, we have Iraq. I don't think younger people understand just how horrible it is. I don't want them to have to know.
