I am with you on that one D. LBJ was an bastard and damned good at it. I can remember Ev Dirksen saying that they would sit down and discuss matters,Both agreeing to disagree and at the same time coming up with what was right for the country.
LBJ could turn the economy around on a week end. And I too would vote for him over Kerry. It saddens me that we as a country are offering these candidates as our best. This election is a beauty contest IMHO.

Derek, I agree with you on LBJ over Kerry. With LBJ, you at least got action, and when he said he was going to do something, he usually, did it, regardless of what it took, legal or otherwise, to do so.

Back in the 60s, and early 70s, I knew a lot of those Good ole boy democrats in Texas. Being active in politics there, as a Republican, we crossed paths many times. We argued like a tom cats after a female in heat, but it never got dirty, and in the end result, all of those guys that are still alive, are now Republicans.
