2. feeds into 1. Those bulging muscles helped make him famous. It's hard to believe they helped get him elected.

As to 4., the state is a mix. It has a lot of extremely bright, gifted people and several of the best universities in the world (Harvard, for example, is the Stanford of the East :-). It also has some nuts that can barely tie their shoes. It has actors and actresses in Hollywood that would be pushing shopping carts except for some lucky breaks. It has tens of thousands pushing shopping carts in Berkeley, San Francisco, ... It has numerous cities that are slightly jokingly referred to as "People's Republics" by Californians (Berkeley is one of these). And it has people that work their tails off. Overall, it's in the upper half of states in per capita income. Against that must be matched an unusually high cost of living and high taxes.

So far, the roof hasn't fallen in. So far. It is doing a great job of exporting businesses to surrounding states because of its taxes and the overregulation demanded by its lunatic fringe.

Hey, man, I'm a conservative Republican caught behind enemy lines. Have mercy. :-)
