Regardless of who's in office, we don't win this battle. The only thing I questioned was our move into Iraq, not our ability to win. I will always question our move there, as I think it was a huge mistake. However, as I said before, it is water under the bridge. The die has been cast and it's most important that we eliminate as many mistakes going forward as we can. We need to be aware of our moves to see what's working and what's not working. We don't need blind people following their leader. We need our leadership to be flexible enough to adapt while never losing sight of the goal to win. Winning in the 21st century is going to look (and end up) substantially different then the first half of the last century. We lack the courage, as a nation, to make a commitment to fight a war the way a war is supposed to be fought. My first reaction is FU...but I think that's probably an over-reaction. Tell those kids over there that they lack what it takes to win and see what kind of response you get. When we were attacked in NYC, for some reason, too many Americans didn't know what to do. They didn't want a war. I suppose they wanted us to find the culprits and lock them up in jail. What part of the country do you live in? Why do you think we went to war in Iraq? Even though it was misguided to go there, imo, most people in this country wanted "some butts" in response to 9/11. It was easy to take this country's eye off the ball and put it onto Iraq. The ball was in Afghanistan but our leadership decided they had "bigger fish to fry" and old scores to settle. Did you even read the most recent article posted by Bruce? Did you appreciate any of the points the author made? dabum3, are you saying that 9/11 was planned and carried out by Iraq? You sure seem to imply that with your last paragraph! If you believe that, wow, I guess there's not much left to say. BTW, There is a terrific piece about how we may need to consider a return to the past for our Department of Defense. Years ago, it was the Department of War and the Department of Navy. The Navy were basically the police force and handled things a bit differently from their counterparts in the DoW. I'll see if I can find the link, it was very well written and thought provoking.
