Ok, I admit the vast bulk of my post was anything but a mess of insults...but I hope its ok in this case if I readily admit my post was not completely devoid of some taunting and some derogotary description of Rays motives, state of mind, and/or criticl thinking abilities.

I love it. I read Rays response with a friend beside me, and we rolled figuratively 'round & 'round laughing at its sad inadequacy. Shoot, how could we not? My friend immediately said, betwenn guffaws, "That response is a badge of honor for you to wear." LOL, I agreed - coming from Ray.

I see your point about keeping an open mind and not limiting the debate. Sometimes the banning feature on moderated threads is abused. But, there are people on SI that are so belligerent and such trolls that putting people on ignore is sometimes useful. There are people who are just obnoxious and disruptive. They aren't interested in a rational dialog and deserve to be ignored. Also, moderated threads aren't everywhere. There are open threads where noone can be banned, so the moderation thing isn't too troubling. As a conservative, I'd think you'd be in favor of empowering people to make decisions within their domain. It's like saying you can't decide who to allow to remain in your home, no matter what their behavior is like. Moderation has its place.

I disagree on both points. While I currently have no one on ignore, I think the feature is a good one.

I think the best thing to do when a thread is moderated in a way one disagrees with is to boycott the thread. I also think that there should be places where people of like mind can go without being harrassed. They exist on both sides. It's fair.

One thing I hope they will add is the subjectmark link on the bottom of the page also.
