Bush wasn't expecting Kerry tonight. Having watched Kerry speak extemporaneously a number of times, I knew that he was a master. As we know, Bush can't talk without a script. So, I think the right may have bought the press that the debate would be between equals. I think that was a Kerry-camp sucker punch. Bush's confidence that his same stupid empty words would carry that day was sorely shaken very quickly. He really struggled. He really wanted off that stage. I bet he's dreading next week. Maybe not, he says nothing disturbs his sleep. He leaves the worrying to Rove. Rove's going to blow an artery over this.
