To me it appears that the mistake Kerry made in his testimony was his description of the extent of atrocities and that they were approved up the entire chain of command.

I believe atrocities happened and that they were more common than would be acceptable to the public. I haven't read his entire testimony, but from what of it I have read I see that he was speaking of his experiences in a war that he had come to oppose. He may have overstated the extent of atrocities, but he was NOT making them up. They happened. And he may very well have saved thousands of soldiers' lives by speaking out to end the war.

To me he is a double hero, because 1. he fought and put himself in harm's way for the sake of his duty to his country, and 2. he had the allegience to his conscience to speak out to end the war when he oppsed it. Both actions show a courage of conviction, and a willingness to take a stand. That is what we need in our president.
