kumar, You say that the process is "expected" to be followed, but is it mandatory? One should be able to get a green card in a very short length of time. That could lessen the years needed to five. My problem is with those that come to America with a work visa, but have no intention to become a citizen. I understand that you are a tax paying citizen, and appreciate that fact, but there are many others that do not have the inclination that you do. They are the ones I want sent back to where they came from, before they can take any Americans to the cleaners.
