The rightwing are particularly desperate and nasty now since Bush was totally crushed in the debate and Kerry has re-taken the lead. Expect more of the same going forward. They're suffering like Islamic extremists whipping themselves with chains and vowing Armageddon. They've really gone nuts. It's kind of a mass insanity thing going on. Edpect them to amp up their lies and cheating to compensate for Bush's extreme exposed weaknesses. The latest Bushie "bright idea" is to charge Kerry with "cheating" in the debate. Anything to cover up for Bush's nervous, guilty, slouching, little man's dishonesty and poor excuses.

A political decision was made to allow Sistani to broker or appear to broker a peace. At any time the US forces could have liquidated violent insurgent fighters. Your assertion Sistani ushered in peace instantly seems to me to not be in touch with the real facts. Currently Us forces are still fighting in that holiest of holi city. Fighting the war in Iraq with a goal of building and growing a representive stable self government is a complex task. All tactical military actions are balanced with the strategic goals of building and growing a representive stable self government. One can argue about if a specific decision on a specific day was correct or not. But the US miliatary has the power to bring peace while building and growing a representive stable self government. Sistani cannot build and grow what he is clueless about. It is hard work. It is undermined when US leader send mixed messages.
