I will chime in if allowed. I was a first sergeant during the Korean War. Every morning a report (morning report) was prepared and forwarded to appropriate channels. No mistakes were allowed. No erasers were used. Typo errors had to be initialed by the CO. The morning report was a record of everything that happened in the previous 24 hours. All AWOLS were indicated. An AWOL triggered a string of paperwork that left an audit trail that triggered additional actions requiring response. If you screw up in the military it is damn hard to coved up. I am sure with Bush there is a report detaching him from duty to another location referencing a specific approved order. The morning report would indicate how long he would be gone and the address of his temporary duty station. After being AWOL for 30 days the status is changed to a deserter with additional paper trails including FBI involvement. Believe me no one goes anywhere in the military without a paper trail. As far as an early release, they were fairly common. I got one myself to go back to college and leave the military two month early. But once again a paper trail. I still have copies of all my orders including when my wife was pregnant four months and rotated home. This AWOL talk is a bunch of crap and the early release required no special assistance to acquire. And for those of you argueing when our involved in Vietnam (Indo China) started. I was alerted in August of 56 that I was going to Indo China. However my wife's pregnancy changed the order. Jim

Of interest this past week - Dubya signs defaced by those espousing the spirit of kerry. The spirit of kerry is that of hate. Hate is not a political platform. Our friend kerry spirit illustrates the spirit of kerry. Was it only a pen - no matter - the spirit of kerry shows all the time. The kerry monster has no core. The kerry monster inspires hate!
