I dont think it is mandatory to "sell" one's stocks when one holds political office - one has to ensure that one does not have any direct control/influence over whats done with the stocks.

I recollect this because Dave Packard (co-founder of HP) was at one stage part of the US DoD. His stocks in HP at that time were held and managed by a trust fund, of which he was not a member.

I seem to recall that his mother owned the Oxy stock. Course she was in her 80's and he was her only heir, but TECHNICALLY, he didn't own them.
