"Now with respect to Iran, they can plainly see our vulnerability today and they can plainly see the opportunity we provided them to press ahead with their plans to build nuclear weapons -- we handed them this opportunity on a silver platter the day we invaded Iraq. "

How? Are you saying if we had not gone to war with iraq, we could and should go to war with iran? Thats what it sounds like to me. The fact that iraq became a mess was not known until after the fact. They thought that iraq would be easy after military phase ended. Thats perhaps is the mistake. They thought that iran and NK would be chasted by a military success in iraq and that this would lead to libya like reactions. Did it work out as planned? Nope.
As for NK, there are six party talks now and thats all thats needed now. Bush again was using iraq to strongarm NK. Same as iran, it wasnt successful because we were not prepared to win the peace in iraq, assuming that was possible. One republican operative i know always said that once the war was over we should have planned to get out and not become policeman there. Maybe that could have worked and perhaps still can if we set exit dates. mike
