Jim, War on terrorism = War on Islamic Fundamentalism. Few want to spell it out for what it really is.

I agree. And even fewer want to point out just how support it is receiving among Arabs, even if some of them do disapprove of certain terrorist acts like 9/11. Politically correct statements like "Islam is a religion of peace" might make us feel better, but it's not going to impress those who need to be impressed the most. See below:

When it's spelled out is easier to see where Iraq fits in.
Democratize Iraq and a stake is driven right in the middle of it. Afghanistan as well. Iran might follow if it done right.

I agree, but be careful. You're going to be branded a "chickenhawk neocon" by the second-guessers. ;-)

The key is getting Iraqis hungry enough to want democracy.
Take South Viet Nam. They didn't want it bad enough and remain under communism today.

Unfortunately, that fits the classic definition of a catch-22. Hence all of the criticism against the war.

Iraq was one of the only (the only?) secular governments in the middle east. Are you saying that Bush's war on "Islamic Fundamentalism" started with a secular government?

If you are right, he's more nuts than I thought he was.

Sure I'll spell it out...

War on terrorism = War on Islamic Fundamentalism. Few want to spell it out for what it really is. "Terrorism" is really an undefined term...rarely clarified.

The Christian fundamentalists going after their Islamic counterparts. Its why I don't like fundamentalists.

When it's spelled out is easier to see where Iraq fits in.

You will get democracy in Afghanistan before you get it in either Iraq or Iran.

The key is getting Iraqis hungry enough to want democracy.

The key is for the US getting out.

?????

Does nobody read my posts about Saudi Arabia?

Do you actually think Iraq is a larger contributor to Islamic fundamentalist thought than Saudi?
