I'm not losing any sleep over the reading of My Pet Duck but you're overreaching bringing in Continuity of Government. If targets [White House] are at risk that requires the evacuation of the President, then the Vice President is to be evacuated as well. Transfer of authority only occurs when the President is incapacitated, typically dead. ...there was time would be to evacuate as much of the government and even their families as possible from targeted areas. The only family that got a reprieve was the President's family. All other families were considered toast. Would it bother these folks any if during the Cuban Missile Crisis, JFK took a 7 minute break to be with Marilyn Monroe? Doesn't it depend on when in the Cuban Missile Crisis we're talking about? As there was never a Cuban missile launch, it's not a parallel argument. To be parallel, you would take the hypothetical situation that Cuban nuclear tipped missiles were launched and while in the air JFK decided to take a 7 minute break with MM. I would consider that more than poor judgement. Also, it seems to me that if you're concerned about the safety of the President [that's reasonable], you evacuate the President immediately from whereever he is. The Secret Service should be running into that classroom and be picking up the President and carrying him out of the room if need be. jttmab

Anyone who grew up as i did during the Cold War knew that the first thing that would be done during a nuclear attack if of course there was time would be to evacuate as much of the government and even their families as possible from targeted areas. I am sure the Russians had similar plans in place. Would it bother these folks any if during the Cuban Missile Crisis, JFK took a 7 minute break to be with Marilyn Monroe? It wouldnt have bothered me. A sex break during a crisis should be a requirement. Maybe thats what Bush should have done instead of reading to kids. Then the libs would be off his case and guys like MM and DRID could hunt for ick stained dresses."
