I don't recall that in the SOU. There's been a succesive change of why we were going to Iraq every time one doesn't pan out. At this point, I have no idea why Bush wanted to invade Iraq. He gives one reason and then later says that didn't make any difference. We have prevented the restart of programs in the face of eroding sanctions. We prevented something that wasn't in progress. Great. "Eroding sanctions" is rhetoric. The conventional and non-conventional capabilities of Iraq were deteriorating during this period of eroding sanctions.I am sure, however, that the most I said was that I didn't know enough about it to substitute my judgment for the Administration's. I don't find that substantively different than what I said.I do know that we have thwarted multiple plots, both in Europe and here, against US targets Absolutely nothing to do with Iraq.and that a lot of terrorists who might be heading West are staying in Iraq to be shot. A lot? First, Iraqis are out of that count. Iraqis weren't leaving Iraq before the war. I've never seen any substantiated claim of a large number of foreign fighters in Iraq to begin with. We make the claim, but don't produce the bodies, so to speak. There are most certainly some foreign fighters that have come into Iraq because of the Iraq war. There's nothing to indicate that all those same people would have come west without the Iraq War. You might as well use your logic to support obliterating the entire mideast with a nuclear laydown. That would prevent any terrorists in the mid-east from coming west. Yes, there was a spike in incidents... Your choice of the words "was a spike" indicates that the spike is now passed. In Iraq itself, the pettiness of the harassment by terrorists, under the circumstances, has been laughable. Laughable? That shows how much concern you have for Iraqi lives. jttmab
