Australia and their citizens are some of the most intelligent, brave, and loving people on this Big Blue Marble.
I've been thinking Howard was going to win, because he actually deserved to.
He bought into Bush's lies, but so did I.
I believed what Bush was putting down to me about WMDs, the connection to 9/11, and I even believed Bush about the nuclear weapons.
That SOB faked my ass out.
He fooled me once big time.

Australia has 850 troops in Iraq ..... like wow!

Australia originally had 2,000 but things are going so well in Iraq they felt comfortable pulling out 1,150.

Howard probably won because he may have guaranteed not to send more.

Additionally, he probably pointed out that he has reduced the troop strength from 2000 to 850, which the Australians saw as a phased pullout.

As people have pointed out, they had 2000 during the actual invasion. Australia doesn't have a large population. Nothing wrong with their contribution.
