I have no idea who this soup al person is, but this post of yours that alludes to your mother is exactly the reason I am here. Yours is an intelligent post that presents a cogent idea about an issue that I had thought quite differently about. Your calm, logical presentation gives me something significant and real to think about. You haven't changed my mind (yet), but you've opened my eyes. That’s great. Thank you.

I do not perceive many posts here to rise to the level of yours, but enough do that it is worth sticking around.

Do you really think that we can eliminate terrorism by eliminating the current crop of terrorists? Isn't that a bit like saying that you can end war by defeating the current enemy?

Terrorism existed before radical Islam adopted it, and it will exist after radical Islam has faded into history.

We need to define our enemy. If we choose to fight a war on "terrorism", we lose: terrorism is a tactic, not an actor. If we choose to fight a war against those particular groups of terrorists that directly threaten us, we can win, if we're smart.

So far we've not been terribly smart, and neither candidate has given any suggestion that we are likely to get any smarter any time soon.

I have the same problem with a very good friend. I keep sending her links to important information and just keep repeating over and over.........."you need to expand your horizons if you want to be informed."

The cBS, Dan RaTHer debacle was a prime example.

Watch for Bush to invoke the word "nuisance" a few times Wednesday evening in the debate.
