Steve- Kery has no clue except run and hide, unless his French friends teach him surrender. Cowards and appeasers always lose. GW has clues and is permitting the Generals to connect the dots. Killing the minions is for target practice. Killing the leaders sends a positive message. A turn around may be a tactic to use in the future. Something simple to prove to them Allah will have nothing to do with them. A small piece of pigskin under their tongue at burial, jewish females wrapping the body for burial, oh so many easy ways...

Do you really think that we can eliminate terrorism by eliminating the current crop of terrorists? Isn't that a bit like saying that you can end war by defeating the current enemy?. I think that would be a good start. What's your solution? If they made you King for a Day, how would you go about the task?

Terrorism existed before radical Islam adopted it, and it will exist after radical Islam has faded into history Well, people told Reagan you can't defeat communism, and I guess they were right. There are still communists today, some pretend ones even have a sense of humor : communistsforkerry.com But it's been a while since people are afraid of communists. In fact, the largest communist country today is communist by name only, and a visit will clearly show this is a down to the core rotten money grubbing capitalist running dog kind of place --- just like the US today. (just a joke). You can make terrorism irrelevant by breaking their will and drying up their funding. To do this, the countries like Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Egypt, Syria, Libya, Iran and others must have governments that are doing their best to shut down groups that use this as a tactic. Lets not mistake what this is, terrorism as a tactic is used because it works, when it becomes a tactic that comes with a fitting punishment, it will cease to be employed widely. Once the islamic societies turn on them, there will be no more support, no more funding, and lots of pain and hiding by the leadership, and the remaining groups will try something else. You can make terrorists as pitiful as marxists, and nowadays, marxists just aren't that scary anymore. Certainly no more than William Hung is.

We need to define our enemy. If we choose to fight a war on "terrorism", we lose: terrorism is a tactic, not an actor. If we choose to fight a war against those particular groups of terrorists that directly threaten us, we can win, if we're smart. I agree with you that terrorism is a tactic, not an actor, and that we need to better define our enemy. Still, if "those particular groups" were not using terrorism as a tactic, would we still be at war with them? Would they still be our "enemy"?

I cannot predict the future, but I can tell you with certainty that killing terrorists DOES prevent them from participating in terrorist attacks. The reason Germany no longer suffers attacks from the Baader Meinhof gang is because they are all dead. The reason Che and his gang no longer plan and execute attacks is because they are dead. The reason Peru has slashed attacks by Shining Path terrorists and nearly stopped their slaughter (30,000 so far) is because Peru has killed almost all of them.
