Australia vows to pursue war on terror
(Updated at 1220 PST)
SYDNEY: Newly re-elected Prime Minister John Howard vowed on Tuesday to carry on the war on terrorism as Australia remembered its victims of the Bali bombings with nationwide vigils.

Howard said there was no choice but to make a strong stand.

"Give us wise leaders and upright citizens so that people everywhere on earth may enjoy prosperity, freedom and security of peace," Howard said in a prayer at a commemoration service in Canberra.

"It will be a long fight and there is no alternative but to pursue it because terrorists do not respect weakness; they take advantage of retreat, they punish vacillation, they only respect strength and resolution," he added.
