FWIW: XP SP2 ...

TC,

As you might recall I told my XP SP2 Tale here about a month ago:

Message 20506481

One thing I didn't note in the detail I included was that while I was on that 4 hour call with Microsoft SP2 support in India, it was repeatedly stressed that not only should all AV, firewalls, spware protection, etc. be turned off (I had closed and killed all with EndItAll 2.0) but that all AV, firewalls, spyware, should be UNINSTALLED, prior to commencing the install.

[I know many individuals that have successfully installed SP2 for XP without going to this extreme, although none using the particular AV or firewall I have installed]

As noted I also uninstalled my 2nd install which worked fine except still no internet connectivity. I now have the CD, but am holding off before once again trying the install.

In my case in addition to running the normal spyware and adware protection we all run, I was (am) running Trend Micro's AV and Sygate's firewall (both bundled with VCOM's System Suite 5). I was also running SystemWorks 2003 but with AV turned off.

All of the above were cleaned out thoroughly while working through the issue on the phone. (using AddRemove, Registry Editing, etc.) as were any other apps or utilities we thought might be causing the conflict.

Best,

- Eric -
