>>>In your opinion how can the Christian be sure that he has been elected or chosen by God -- and how important is that??<<<

This is a very hard subject to approach. I remember a verse that goes like. It is not we that choose God but God that chooses us or something to that effect.

The way that I see that is collectively as a human race.

I am studying the life of Abraham now. Yes God chose Abram but it was by grace just as he now chooses us. No where does it say that Abraham had a heart for God, as the bible says of King David. King David murdered, and was an adulterer. Right on. He earned his way to heaven .

It's all by grace. When God extends His hand of mercy and grace to one person He extends His hand of mercy and grace to all men.

This really gets hard...but in the old testament...God is all about exclusitivity. His people. His choice. The exclusion of all others. The reproach of all others.

But start looking under the surface and the true God was always there. As an example Elieazar, Abrams trusted servant from Damascus. Chosen by Abraham to find a wife for Isaac. In control over all that Abraham had. In control over all the goods of Abraham. Really adopted into the family but trusted by Abraham over his relatives. But not related to Abraham. Believed in Jehova. Prayed to Jehova. Elieazar was the modern grafted in church...that goes out and finds the bride of Christ..

Under the surface the heart of God was always evident. The message of salvation was always to whomsoever will. Malchizadeck. The king of Salem. No known lineage. King of Salem or Jerusalem. How did he know of Jehova? But he did. Abraham gave the spoils of war to him. The bible states that he was the priest of the most high God. How did he attain that status.

The list goes on and on. Even examples like Ruth......Whomsoever does the will of God is God's elect. In Christ...and in His kingship and Lordship we are royal and elect and shall rule with him jointly for all eternity....In Christ...Gregor
