EURO-DOLLAR: Not yet finding anyone who offers a convincing explanation for the explosive rally in the euro where highs were printed near $1.2360. Backdrop includes weak stocks, firming oil and Tsy Sec Snowamp;apos;s comments on another wire, RTRS, re the debt ceiling (not new news to anyone who has been following that topic). Nonetheless, a lot of traders scrambling to explain why the market turns from sedate trade around $1.2280/85 into an explosive rally over $1.2300 to the highs.

If you're looking at the results of the recent election in Venezuela as an indication of majority support for Chavez, hold your horses. He put numerous restrictions on voting, making it difficult to qualify to vote, including unreasonable restrictions on all ex-pats, making it virtually impossible for most of them to vote at all.--but yeah, our record in Latin America is not exactly stellar, either.
