IN REALITY, IS THERE REALLY A "CHURCH OF BUY AND HOLD" ????

Just ease-dropped briefly to Bob's radio show today at the half way point of the second hour. He was commenting about his perception that there is a class of investors who believe so staunchly in "buying-and-holding" their equity investments that they get enraged and attack those who profess to act differently.

Could it be that this class of investor that Bob sees out there is really just a VERY SMALL group of unbalanced vocal former Brinker fans who attack Bob because of he is a public figure by virtue of his radio show? In other words in the vane of the classic Xmas movie "It's a Good Life" where Jimmy Stewart is made to see what his world would have been like had he not been born", it occurs to me that if Bob was not a public figure and never had a weekend radio show dating back to October 1981; would anyone talk about a "Church of Buy-and-Hold"???

Yes, some noteble authors have expressed their philosophy of equity investing to be "buy-and-hold" (ie. Bogle, Ellis, etc.). But other noteable authors recommend long term market timing. And there's zillions of technical analysis books out there that recommend various forms of frequent trading - are these authors attacked on the internet and in the media like Bob has been? I personally doubt it. I would guess that if they have been attacked, such attacks were from the same very small group of folks who attack Bob. I don't see how or why any NORMAL person would care so much about another person's different investment philosophy to attack that person - it makes absolutely no sense to me.

JMHO

RE: IMPACT OF FLOATING CHINESE CURRENCY

Does anyone here have any quantum leap thinking to offer on the impact of Red China's decision to float its currency on:

- Long term interest rates, GNMA values, and the housing market
- Future inflation pressures
- The remaining horizon of the current Secular Bull Market
- The remaining horizon for the current economic recovery
- Future demand for oil
- Any other thoughts of substance related to this issue.

Best regards,

P
