I was recently called to jury duty with about 130 other citizens(overkill on the county's part). Only one trial that day so about 20 of us would be chosen for a Medical mal-practice suit. Plaintiff's wrist was hurt on the job & he was treated at hospital emergency room. His lawyer "Guido" explained that the MD supposedly misdiagnosed injury to a teeny tiny bone in the defendant's wrist, which would render the man incapable of making a living forever after. The defendant, an older MD, sat there with a distraught expression. Atty Guido stated the trial would involve lengthy explanations & X-ray examinations of the teeney-tiny bone. My family was in the midst of a very time consuming project, and my eyes were glazing over at the thought of days spent listening to Guido's miniscule injury details. With misplaced luck my jury # was called for voirdire(sp?). As soon as Guido asked if anyone had any reason why they could not sit on the jury, raised my hand & explained that I believe caps should be placed on jury awards(which is in fact my conviction). For some strange reason Guido didn't want me on the jury(while I said a silent thank you prayer). LOL
My point is that the plaintiff looked perfectly healthy. It was obviously a frivolous lawsuit brought by a lazy, opportunistic attorney. Why are you supporting lawyers who would happily close down your medical practice for a minute bone injury, if it would line their pockets?
