Dude, the Republicans are using sexuality as a political tool... that's what the anti-gay-marriage amendment is. Bush had just said that he didn't know whether being gay was a choice or not. Kerry countered by talking about someone who is close to Bush and helping out with the campaign, someone who Bush obviously knows well, and questioning whether or not Bush thought she'd made a choice. It's a perfectly fair question. It's only nasty if (1) she was trying to keep it a secret, or (2) you believe that there is something wrong with being gay. But, she wasn't, and there is ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING GAY. -Z

I see........Cheney can comment about his daughter's gayness when in public but no one else can. What a ridiculous and indefensible position. Both Cheney and his daughter have made her gayness a part of the public realm. The fact that she has chosen not to hide her sexuality gives Kerry NO RIGHT WHATSOEVER to have used her sexuality as a political tool. How did he use it as a political tool? It was, undoubtedly, the most offensive remark in a candidates debate since Bentsen's ugly, uncalled for remark to Quayle. Just more evidence that "ethical liberals" are nonexistent. The fact that many homosexuals didn't "get it" (and I've talked to one today who, like Sullivan, didn't), improves the situation not one iota. Maybe gays are not getting it because there is nothing to get. Oh wait, I bet you all were hoping the radical right evangelists would not find about Cheney's gay daughter until after the election. Oh, now I get it!
