Zogby Polls Have Something for Both Bush and Kerry
October 15, 2004 01:48 PM

Zogby’s daily tracking poll emerged today with what many thought as a surprise, a surging lead for President George W. Bush. These types of tracking polls usually include three days worth of surveys, (These results are from October 12-14) so today’s poll is the first that includes the day after the last debate.

The snapshot according to Zogby gives the President a 48%-44% lead among likely voters. Pollster John Zogby concludes on his Web Site, “While Bush-- now at 48%-- had another good night continuing his upward trend, Kerry appears stuck at 44%. The good news for the President is that he has improved his performance among the small group of undecideds. Nearly a quarter now say that he deserves to be re-elected—up from 18% in our last poll.

Scott Rasmussen shows the same up tick for the president, his daily tracking poll shows President Bush leading John Kerry 49%-45.5%.

And that brings us to the Zogby's confusing poll results that show something positive for both parties.

John Zogby is also conducting a “Battleground States Poll” where he has John Kerry absolutely dominating. Out of the sixteen declared battleground states John Kerry leads in thirteen. In other words, Kerry leads in 81% of the battleground states. That’s a huge win and in no uncertain terms, would be a landslide victory for John Kerry.

If you do the Electoral College math, that gives an easy Electoral College victory for John Kerry if the election were held today, 317-221, even though he would lose the popular vote by four points. That’s very unlikely.

An obvious question emerges, which Zogby poll do you believe?
