I'll be glad to cast my vote next week and be done with the whole thing. Kerry Trails Bush 6 Percentage Points in Latest Newsweek Poll Oct. 16 (Bloomberg) -- John Kerry, the four-term senator from Massachusetts, trailed President George W. Bush by 6 percentage points, losing ground following the debates, a nationwide Newsweek poll showed. Bush was backed by 50 percent of 880 likely voters, while Kerry got the support of 44 percent, outside the margin of error of four percentage points for the Oct. 14-15 survey. Independent candidate Ralph Nader had the support of 1 percent. A previous nationwide poll also showed Bush pulling ahead of Kerry. A three-day Reuters/Zogby tracking poll that included one day of questioning after the final debate on Oct. 13 showed Bush ahead with 48 percent to Kerry's 44 percent. That poll had a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points. Bush, 58, and Kerry, 60, were campaigning through the weekend, with 17 days to go before the election, to get out the vote and convert the few remaining swing voters. Kerry was on a bus tour across Ohio today and Bush was campaigning in Florida, both states where the race is a dead heat in local polls Bush won or lost by less than 7 percentage points in 2000. Kerry spokesman David Wade said he wasn't worried about the Newsweek poll. ``Most polls out this week have shown us deadlocked or pulling ahead, and certainly we've real momentum in battleground states,'' Wade said. Bush was supported by 46 percent of 1,231 likely voters surveyed Oct. 11-13 by Reuters/Zogby, while Kerry was backed by 45 percent. In a Washington Post poll Oct. 10-12, Kerry's support among 1,203 likely voters was 49 percent, compared with 48 percent for Bush. The survey's error margin is 3 percentage points. ''With 17 days to go, we would much rather have our message, record and poll position than theirs,'' said Bush campaign spokesman Reed Dickens. Newsweek polled 1,004 registered voters, deeming 880 likely to vote based on their answers to a series of questions. Among registered voters, Bush took 48 percent support and Kerry 46 percent, within the four percentage-point margin of error. quote.bloomberg.com
