Re: Too bad Blair has no knowledge of the success of the big lie and Rove is similarly uninformed--or maybe not.

Never discount the power of hubris to cloud the rational mind.

Blair is completely aware of and oblivious to the similarities in the course of action he's set up and that of the masters of the Third Reich. Blair prefers to see his actions in light of the glorious days of expansion of the British Empire under such enlightened PMs such as William Gladstone, another who saw that he was raising local populations half-way around the globe from so-called ignorance and imagined poverty just as he was plundering their natural resources and securing all profit for British trading companies.

The ability of the British statesman to see 'war as peace, enslavement as freedom and ignorance as strength' preceded George Orwell's pithy quote by at least a couple of centuries. Orwell was not merely predicting the future in "1984", he was describing the past... as well as the present state of human relations.
