Thanks for the "real world" hard facts Mike.

Those are decent returns for deposits. Love the currency appreciation. Lucky you. :o)

Sleuthing....I found
bnz.co.nz
and then this disappointing item (first line)
bnz.co.nz

However I have e-mailed them to see if I can purchase a term deposit (investment certificate) as opposed to opening an account per se.

In Canada if I buy US equities and realize a profit, I am obliged to declare the profit to Revenue Canada and taxed (cap gains) accordingly. No US tax or reporting. I presume they have a reciprocal agreement for US 'ers trading this way.

Condor:

This past winter my son went to NZ and also opened an account at BNZ. He tried to open one in one city and they refused to open it because he wasn't a resident. Then he went to the Queenstown branch (where I opened my account) and they had no problem opening it. I have the email address for the branch manager of that branch at my office, so possibly he might be more willing to open an account for you. I can send you his name and email address if you like tomorrow.
